Wat moet ik verplicht aan boord hebben?
De punten hieronder gelden voor pleziervaartuigen van 2.5m tot 24m lang, pleziervaartuigen die na 1997 op de markt zijn gekomen en alle sport -en vrije- tijdschepen, zowel voor binnenvaart als zeevaart.
Met uitzondering op de volgende pleziervaartuigen: officiële wedstrijdboten, kano's, surfplanken, gondels, waterscooters, waterfietsen, originele en replica's van historische vaartuigen, vaartuigen waarvan de fabrikant aangeeft dat ze experimenteel zijn, persoonlijk gebruik waarvan in ieder geval de eindgebruiker de romp zelf heeft gemaakt, bemande vaartuigen bestemd voor commercieel vervoer van passagiers, duikboten, luchtkussenvaartuigen en draagvleugelboten.
Naam
Volgens het BPR (binnenvaartpolitiereglement) moeten alle boten een naam hebben. Op uitzondering van boten die sneller kunnen varen dan 20km/u en korter zijn dan 20m.
Vaarbewijs
Wanneer heb ik een vaarbewijs nodig?
*Pleziervaartuigen die sneller kunnen varen dan 20km/u
*Pleziervaartuigen met een lengte van 15 tot 20m
*Vaartuigen van 15 tot 20m die worden gebruikt voor bedrijfsmatig vervoer

BPR (binnenvaart-politiereglement)
Het BPR is verplicht op veel vaarwegen, met uitzondering van open boten. Het BPR is terug te vinden in de wateralmanak deel 1.
Voor de volgende vaarwegen gelden andere reglementen: Op zee, voor de Rijn en Rijntakken, de Maas en het grensgebied, de Westerschelde, het kanaal Gent-Terneuzen en voor de Eemsmondeling. De reglementen hiervoor zijn terug te vinden op de site van de overheid.
Registratiebewijs
Dit geld alleen voor snelle motorboten die sneller kunnen varen dan 20km/u.
Dodemansknop
Koord moet om tijdens het varen!
Gekeurde reddingsvesten voor iedereen aan boord aanwezig
Minimaal een 2kg brandblusser
Dit geld alleen voor snelle motorboten die sneller kunnen varen dan 20km/u.
Radarreflector
Een radarreflector is niet overal verplicht. Dit geldt alleen voor de volgende vaarwegen: Maasmond, de Oosterscheld en het kanaal van Gent naar Terneuzen.
Verlichting
Verlichting is alleen verplicht als u vaart tussen zonsondergang en zonsopgang. Of als u vaart tijdens slechte weersomstandigheden.
Let op, in het buitenland kunnen andere regels gelden!
